Believe it or not, Memorial Day is just around the corner. This year, Memorial Day falls on Monday May 26, so it’s time to start making plans for the long weekend! The end of May is the perfect time to pay a visit to Gatlinburg, Tennessee. With warm but comfortable temperatures, returning songbirds, and blooming wildflowers, the Great Smoky Mountains are absolutely gorgeous during springtime.

1. Fishing in the National Park

Fishing is one of the most relaxing ways to enjoy some time by the water. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park has roughly 2,115 miles of streams with plenty of rainbow trout, panfish, and smallmouth bass to catch.

You can fish in the National Park year round with a valid Tennessee fishing license or a North Carolina fishing license. With a cooler full of cold beverages, some tasty snacks, and a little patience, you can spend the whole day relaxing in the park as you try to reel in the big one.
