Smoky Mountain Outdoors offers fantastic white water rafting adventures along both the upper and lower Pigeon River. All of our trips are fully guided by our friendly and professional staff, so no experience is necessary for these exciting journeys down the river. Every trip takes place even if it’s raining – after all, you’re going to get wet either way!

Our Lower Pigeon River rafting trip is a 5.5 mile expedition through the scenic Pigeon River gorge that starts at our outpost and finishes at the Denton Bridge. This trip features approximately 50 class 1 and 2 rapids, with one class 3 rapid at the end of the trip. The Lower River rafting trip is perfect for families with younger kids who will enjoy splashing around on the river!

Upper Pigeon River Rafting

Our Upper Pigeon River rafting trip is even more of an adrenaline rush, offering 6.5 miles of class 3 and 4 rapids through the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains! During this amazing adventure, you and your guides will navigate a raft around rocks, through big waves, and down exciting drops as you flow down the river. Guests taking the Upper River rafting trip will experience approximately 70 rapids that range between class 1 and class 4, making it the adventure of a lifetime!

The Experience

After conquering the rapids of the Pigeon River, take your adventure to new heights with an incredible canopy tour at CLIMB Works! This unforgettable experience takes you on a series of nine world class ziplines and three sky bridges, as well as a special surprise ending. Your adventure starts with a four wheel ride to the top of the mountain, where you will begin the tour. After you are strapped in to your harness, your feet won’t touch the ground again for 2.5 hours! The CLIMB Works ziplines are surrounded on three sides by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, providing you with an unparalleled bird’s eye view of the area’s natural beauty.

Requirements

In order to go ziplining at CLIMB Works, guests must be a minimum of seven years old and cannot weigh more than 270 pounds. In addition, guests less than 80 pounds may need to ride with one of our guides or a sibling. Finally, we recommend that zipline participants be in moderately good health, able to comfortably walk a few hundred yards over moderate terrain, and able to stand on their feet for 2.5 hours. These requirements are for the safety of all guests, the top priority at CLIMB Works. Their trained guides have all completed extensive safety training and are First Aid and CPR certified.
