If you thought the end of summer means the end of white water rafting, you are in for a surprise! The fall is actually one of the best times to experience a rafting excursion, and we are open for business in September and October! Here are the top 4 reasons why fall is the perfect time to go white water rafting in the Smoky Mountains:

1. Fun Natural Flow Trips

The fall season is one of the best times to experience white water rafting because the water levels are unpredictable! During your fall trip, you may encounter anything from a leisurely trip down the river to class III and IV rapids, adding a tremendous amount of excitement to your white water rafting adventure because you never know what quite to expect! While you may not know what to expect as far as water levels, you can always count on having a blast regardless of what mother nature has in store!

2. Beautiful Fall Colors

The fall colors in the Smoky Mountains are a beautiful sight to behold, and there is no better way to experience this beauty than from our rafting excursions on the Pigeon River! While it is difficult to predict the exact dates of the peak season, you can count on seeing fall foliage for several weeks in the autumn. The color displays start as early as mid-September in the higher elevations, while the fall colors develop above 4,000 feet from early to mid-October. The peak display usually occurs at mid and lower elevations somewhere from mid-October to the end of the month. Whenever you decide to go rafting in the fall, there is an excellent chance you will get to see some beautiful fall colors!

3. Cooler Temperatures

Another reason why the fall is the perfect time to go white water rafting in the Smoky Mountains is because of the cooler temperatures! While there are naturally plenty of opportunities to get wet during our rafting excursions, a summer heatwave with high humidity can make it tough to be outside. You don’t have to worry about that in the fall when the air is cooler and crisper! This is your last opportunity to join Smoky Mountain Outdoors before we close for the winter, so you won’t want to miss our fall trips!

4. Close to Gatlinburg

Stunning view of downtown Gatlinburg, TN one of the top small cities in America

If you are planning a fall getaway to Gatlinburg, you will be excited to know that our outpost is just a short drive away! We are the closest whitewater rafting operator to the Smoky Mountain area, making it easy to incorporate a rafting trip into your vacation plans! Smoky Mountain Outdoors is located at 3299 Hartford Road in Hartford, TN.

Now since we have you excited about white water rafting in the Smoky Mountains in the fall, learn more about our fall trips and plan your adventure! We look forward to seeing you soon for one of our white water rafting trips!
