It’s no secret that vacations in the Smoky Mountains are filled with endless options regarding how you can spend your time. However, one thing we believe should be on every Smoky Mountain visitors’ itinerary is white water rafting!

Our Smoky Mountain river rafting trips are fun for all ages, and even those who don’t usually consider themselves “outdoorsy” will love spending time in the great outdoors this way. Keep reading for 3 reasons why we believe that Smoky Mountain river rafting trips are the one thing you don’t want to miss during your stay:

1. Great for Thrill SeekersA happy family waving to the camera on their white water river rafting trip with Smoky Mountain Outdoors.

The Smoky Mountains often draw those who consider themselves “thrill seekers” because of the many amusement parks, theme parks and various other exhilarating activities that can be found throughout the area. While your first instinct might be to spend your days riding roller coasters at Dollywood or racing go-karts at one of the many local tracks, we’re sure that, given the chance, Smoky Mountain river rafting will quickly become one of your favorite vacation activities! Few things are more exciting than riding big waves, maneuvering around rocks, taking on large drops and more, all while riding out 6.5 miles of class 3 and 4 rapids on our Upper Pigeon River rafting trip. Take one trip down the river and we know you’ll be hooked – and for an even more thrilling experience, check out our Upper Pigeon River Extreme trip!

2. Suitable for All Experience Levels

We realize that not everyone who decides to include Smoky Mountain river rafting in their vacation plans has prior experience with white water rafting. We want to ensure that all of our guests feel safe and comfortable with the level of rapids they’ll be taking on, so we offer three different levels of guided trips. Our Lower Pigeon River rafting trip takes you 5.5 miles through the scenic Pigeon River gorge on which you’ll experience about 50 class 1 and class 2 rapids. This trip is great for beginners, families with young children and those who are looking for a slightly more laid-back way to experience the beauty of the Pigeon River. If you’re more experienced or looking for more of a challenge, you’ll definitely want to check out the “thrill seeker” links above!

In the summer months, things really heat up here in the Smokies, and we can’t think of a more enjoyable way to beat the heat than by going Smoky Mountain river rafting! While we’ll agree that pools are great, our rafting trips are a fun and unique way to get wet and stay cool with the added bonus of the excitement of riding rapids and exploring the Pigeon River. If you’re part of a small group with members who are looking for an added challenge, be sure to check out our inflatable kayak rafting trips that take place on the Lower Pigeon River – great for all experience levels, and we promise you’ll absolutely love it!
