October 17, 2018 July 16th, 2021

There is no doubt you’re in for a great adventure when you come rafting in the Smoky Mountains with us! To make your experience the best it can be, we want to make sure you’re prepared in the best way possible. That’s why we’ve put together a list of 5 ways to prepare for your Pigeon River rafting trip:

1. Choose the Trip That’s Right for You

During rafting season, we offer a variety of trips for you to choose from. To prepare for your rafting adventure, find out more about all of our trips and pick the one that’s right for you and your group! For an exciting ride down the river, choose our Upper River Rafting Trip, which includes class 3 and 4 rapids and plenty of waves. For a scenic float on the river, choose our Lower River Rafting Trip, which is perfect for families with kids and those who want a more relaxing ride. If you want a big thrill, book our Extreme Upper River Rafting Trip, where you’ll ride in a smaller boat and hit bigger waves!

2. Pack the Right Clothing to Wear

Happy group of people white water rafting in the Smokies. The next way to prepare for your trip is to make sure you pack the right clothing. Many people wonder what to wear white water rafting. If you plan your trip for the spring season when the temperatures haven’t quite gotten hot, avoid wearing cotton clothing that can absorb the water and make you feel cold. We recommend wearing fleece or something comfortable that will keep you warm. If you come rafting during the summer, the best things to wear are shorts and a bathing suit or T-shirt, which will keep you cool as you soak up the sun! Keep in mind that no flip-flops are allowed, so you must pack secure-fitting shoes. Make sure to bring a dry towel, clothes, and shoes for after your trip!

3. Have a Good Attitude

The next way to prepare is to make sure you have a good attitude. If you’re rafting for the first time, it can be a little scary at first, but know that you’re in good hands with our experienced rafting guides. They focus on keeping you safe so that all you have to focus on is having a great time! Don’t let fear get the best of you and let yourself have an amazing time Pigeon River rafting!

4. Choose One of Our Combo Packages

We offer a variety of combo packages that make your time in the Smoky Mountains even better. With our Pigeon River Combo Package, you can experience both the Upper and Lower Pigeon River! You’ll raft over class 3 and 4 rapids on the Upper Pigeon, then you can stop for a riverside lunch at the Lost Guide Grill before rafting the Lower Pigeon! We also offer a zipline and rafting combo package that allows you to go ziplining with CLIMB Works and rafting with us! Both of these packages are available May through Labor Day.

5. Make a Reservation & Arrive Early

Our final suggestion on how to prepare for your white water rafting trip in the Smoky Mountains is to make a reservation and arrive early! The only way to guarantee that you will get to go rafting on the day and at the time you want is to make a reservation. A perk of making a reservation online or by phone is that you will receive a discount on your trip! We also recommend planning to arrive early. During the spring, it’s a good idea to arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled time on the river, and during the summer it’s a good idea to arrive about an hour early. This gives you time to get your group settled and grab all the gear you need to start your rafting trip early or on time!
