Even when you aren’t in the Smokies, you can still enjoy them! There are several Smoky Mountain webcams set up throughout the park so you can see incredible views when you’re at home. This is the best way to get your Smoky Mountain fix when you can’t come to the area! Here are the top 5 webcams in the Smoky Mountains to watch at home:
1. Newfound Gap
The webcam at Newfound Gap shows an incredible view of the mountains. You can see a section of Newfound Gap Road going through the mountains and a parking lot in the bottom section. This Smoky Mountain webcam faces the southeast and sits on the state line between Tennessee and North Carolina. Newfound Gap is actually the lowest drivable pass in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and it helped contribute to the park being free to enter! This is one of the best webcams to look
2. Look Rock
Another webcam in the Smoky Mountains you’ll love being able to enjoy at home is Look Rock. This camera is set up at a viewpoint along Foothills Parkway. You can see several mountains in the picture. When you come back to the Smokies, you can enjoy this view in person! To get to Look Rock, you just have to walk a short 0.5 mile trail off the Foothills Parkway. This is a unique scenic drive in the Smokies because the road has been under construction for about 75 years. There’s still a section about 33.5 miles long that has yet to be completed.
3. Purchase Knob
On the North Carolina side of the Smokies, there is the Purchase Knob webcam. It faces northeast and has a great view of distant mountains with a close up of a valley. This property was the largest amount of land donated to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You can also see this view in person after a short 0.5 mile hike to the lookout point. Around this area, you’ll find a historic cabin, a 50-person classroom, and housing for visiting scientists.
4. Ober Mountain
You might not think of Ober Mountain first when you think of looking at webcams in the Smoky Mountains, but they actually have two! You can look at a beautiful view of the mountains and downtown Gatlinburg on one of their webcams that shows the park. The first webcam is especially beautiful in the fall with the color changes or in winter when snow falls. The second webcam faces the bottom of the ski slopes, so you can watch people have a great time skiing and snowboarding. You can also watch hill tubing, rock climbing, water slides, and much more.
5. Gatlinburg Space Needle
The Gatlinburg Space Needle webcam is definitely set apart from the other webcams. You can actually control what you see on the camera! This Smoky Mountain webcam is set up at the top of the Space Needle. You can look down at downtown Gatlinburg and watch people walk by. If you want to see other parts of the Parkway, you can choose left or right Parkway. Look at Gatlinburg facing Pigeon Forge, the national park entrance, or towards Gatlinburg on the webcam.
