September 17, 2012 February 23rd, 2023

The next time you travel to the Smoky Mountains, make sure that you check out these top five travel apps for your smartphone. You will thank us later.

Smoky Mountains1) Offline Wikitravel ($7.99 per month)
When you’re rafting with Smoky Mountain Outdoors, you don’t always have reliable Internet access. Store over 20,000 worldwide travel guides on your phone so you won’t need to rely on that access. The hefty price of $7.99 per month will make some people hesitate, but it is well worth the money when you’re traveling to a remote area.

2) Foodspotting (Free)
Footspotting has quickly become one of the top travel apps and with good reason. It is all about the food and is visual, interactive, personalized, and social. The pictures will draw you in to the food you love that is located in close proximity. Bookmark dishes to try ahead of time and then vote up the dishes that you love later.

3) Instagram (Free)
When you’re rafting and don’t want to carry a camera with you, Instagram is perfect. Shoot, edit, and share photos right from the app. It comes with a large selection of filters and borders, all of which are also free. Share with ease to Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Flickr, Posterous, and Foursquare.

4) Kayak (Free)
Kayak is one of the most comprehensive travel booking apps. It includes flights, hotels, and rental cars and features a flight tracker and My Trip menu so you’ll be able to access you entire itinerary at any time.

5) Flashlight (Free)
This is another ideal app to have when you’re out on a rafting trip in Gatlinburg or in the Smokies. You never know when you’ll drop something or end up in a dark tunnel or cave and need access to a light quickly.

What is one app that is a must have for you when you travel? We would love to hear from you!! Let us know on the Smoky Mountain Rafting Facebook page.
